First day back!

It's officially the first day of the term, and for some it could be their very first day!

I'm starting Module 2 this term and whilst being nervous I'm also looking forward to getting started. Unfortunately I missed the welcome back skype call yesterday as I was in a performance, but I plan to attend as many of the calls as possible! If you're new to the course, I'd suggest doing the same... it can be scary being on a call with people you don't know but it's so useful within the course, especially with this being distance education. Which brings me onto beginnings.
As Adesola mentioned in her most recent blog post, even though this is the first day and the beginning of the term, it might not feel like much has happened. Bascially, you need to get "stuck in". Start to organise and plan time within your week when you will physically sit down and read/research/blog/reflect/write/network.

I thought about beginnings of shows I have danced. One piece I danced in, Bolero, starts off with me sat on a chair facing away from the audience, with dim lighting and only hand movements at first,
and as the music builds the movement follows. I think this is how I started Module 1, slowly, seeing how things worked as I went along and got more comfortable with the structure of the course, and also planning my own time. Another show that comes to mind was my final summer performance at vocational school, Elite Syncopations. The majority of the cast begins on stage, chatting and laughing, and it seems as though they're at a party. Everyone gets dancing right away. This is how I'd like to start Module 2, communicating with others through web 2.0 and learning from blog posts, and essentially getting "stuck in". One thing I noticed comparing these two performances, is that with the latter, starting to dance straight away, early on in the show, is that the nerves pass quicker.

Good luck to everyone in all modules this term, and my advice would be to just get started now!

  1. I second everything you have said Rachel, for students reading this blog post that are just starting out in Module one the advise is the best you can take. Everything that is new is scary and getting your routine quicker and more organised the easier you will find settling into the module. I have so much more confidence now going into module two so I'm with Rachel get "stuck in".

  2. I couldn't agree more Ladies! The notion of getting started can often be a daunting one as the modules/tasks seem so huge and such a big challenge but getting 'stuck in' is the best thing! To dive in head first is the best advice I could give to anyone!! I'm pleased that you feel confident too entering module two - lets do this!!
